What Happened When We Limited our Screen Time for a Week? We Slept Better.
The alarm on my phone wakes me up, I open my eyes and check emails, groggy from staying up too late binging another show. I walk out to my living room and watch the news on the tv. I’ll sign into work on my laptop. After dinner, I’ll play a game on my tablet, and put on a kid’s show. Before bed, I’ll scroll on my phone until I can barely keep my eyes open.
Does any of this sound like you? Are you feeling tapped out from screens? Perpetually connected but feeling as disconnected as ever; then we have the challenge for you.
We’re inviting you to step away from the scroll and try one of these activities each day this week. We Tried it and came out of the week feeling better rested and refreshed.
Let’s do this!
Monday: Go for a walk, rain or shine. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes. It doesn’t matter. Just go for a scroll. Wave to a neighbour.
Tuesday: Pull out an old cookbook and make something: a meal, a drink, a dessert. Even better if it’s a special secret family recipe, like this one.
Wednesday: Unplug for 30 whole minutes: no phone, no tv, no computer, no tablet. Don’t even wear your smart watch.
Thursday: Go pick up some seeds, vegetables or flowers, and start planning your summer garden. Even if it’s just for one little pot on your windowsill.
Friday: Print a memory - go get your favourite digital photo printed and put it somewhere! On the fridge, in your wallet, or in a frame.
Saturday: Share something handmade - bake some muffins for your friend who’s going through it right now, or mail out a handwritten letter just to say hi! (even if it may not be delivered directly to your friend’s door - did you hear about this?)
Sunday: Reflect & reset - journal about your week or cozy up with a good book from your analogue basket (what’s an analogue basket? I’m so glad you asked - find out here).
Is it counterintuitive to ask you to share your analogue moments with us? Grab a quick pic and tag us! We’ll re-post to inspire others. We can’t wait to see what you get up to.
